About Major Oak Chorus

Major Oak Chorus

The Major Oak Chorus is an A Capella male chorus. We are members of the British Association of Barbershop Singers.

Based in Nottingham, we are comprised of around 50 ordinary men from all walks of life who are united in our love of music and singing.

What we enjoy doing most of all is performing, and you'll find us out and about in the community at events throughout the year, as well as at the annual national competition where we have finished as high as sixth.

Of course that performance doesn't come without practice and we support our members with coaching and we continually strive to improve our standard.

Naturally when such a large group of singers come together some will want more, and so within our ranks we have several quartets and a MOCtet who all wanted more a cappella in their lives. Many of these are available to hire for more intimate events, for more information see our Ensembles page.

Our Director is Andy Salter

Andy conducts our chorus and is responsible for the choice of material and vocal coaching. Andy was a director with the successful barbershop chorus, 'Spirit of Harmony' based in Yorkshire. He continues there as a singer. He is also a member of the quartet, South Parade' a national senior champion quartet. He is assisted by Steve Norman and has a team of four section leaders, who help by coaching the individual voice parts, Bass, Baritone, Lead and Tenor.
